Florina Seabi – Mrs Seabi is a trained nurse and has set up Thabang Community Home Based Care.

She set up a care group in 1997 with 12 women who would exchange skills, knit, sew and create food gardens. When the government asked clinics to set up Home Based Care Workers she helped the care group to get trained as Home Based Carers. This group worked full-time voluntarily for ten years but from 2006 the AIDS Foundation started funding Thabang. The group are devoted to their work and care for over 800 people a month. They go out into the community caring for those in need and teaching life skills with a focus on health and HIV and AIDS. Thabang also has a youth group which meets twice a week and a drop-in centre for lifeskills and feeding orphans and vulnerable children. Florina is looking forward to retiring from the clinic as a nursing sister in 2007 so that she can work with Thabang full-time!
