Having your own email server running on your local network has many advantages over collecting mail remotely from the ISP.  It allows you to setup an unlimited number mailboxes with out increasing your monthly costs and gives you full control of features such as mailing lists and responders.  It becomes practical to use email for internal communications.

 Agora offers a setup & management service for both on-line and off-line Email servers.   An on-line email server costs less but is only possible if you have a permanent connection to the Internet.   An off-line email server retrieves Email for your domain via a Dial-up connection from our email server where mail is temporarily held.

How it works:

• We register a domain for you  - YourCompany.co.za

•   We install an email server at your premises

Off-line

• We create a domain email box on our mail server

• Any mail sent to <anyname>@yourcompany.co.za ends up in that mailbox.

• The mail server periodically dials through and retrieves any mail from your domain email box on our mail server and distributes it to individual mailboxes on your server.

On-line

• Mail from anywhere in the world for your domain is directed by the DNS system down your leased line internet connection to your mail server.

• The workstations on your LAN then automatically bring the mail to each user.

• Through it’s software service contracts and remote control software Agora can take full responsibility for all ongoing management and maintenance of your Email server   

Mail just pop’s up on the users desktop 

Requirements

• Pentium Computer with 64Mb RAM & Approx. 1Gb free disk space

• This email server computer does not have to be dedicated but that is highly recommended.

• Windows NT  (Workstation or Server)

• Email Server Software  -    Slmail   or  FTGate

• Email Client software for workstations -  Pegasus Mail, MS Outlook etc

For an Off-line server:

• Modem

• Dedicated phone line

• Dial-up Internet connection

In addition your computers need to be networked together using the TCP/IP protocol
